Financial Reports and Tax Compliance Guide for SparkyMinis
Reports & Taxes
Navigate to: Dashboard > Business > Reports & Taxes (/dashboard/business/reports)
The Reports section is your financial command centre. It compiles all your invoices and expenses into clear, accountant-ready summaries. No spreadsheets, no manual calculations — just accurate data ready to hand to your CA, file with a tax authority, or review yourself.
What Reports Does
- Aggregates all income (from invoices) and all expenses into unified views.
- Converts all multi-currency transactions to your Home Currency at stored exchange rates.
- Segments data by month, quarter, or financial year.
- Calculates GST/VAT collected and input tax credit, making tax reconciliation straightforward.
The Four Report Tabs
The Reports page is organised into four tabs at the top:
Overview
Your financial command centre. Shows:
- YTD Tax Liability — Tax collected on invoices this financial year.
- Estimated Annual Tax — Projected full-year tax based on current run rate.
- YTD Tax Paid — Input tax on expenses within the FY.
- TDS Liability — TDS deducted at source on invoices.
- Year-over-year trend comparison.
Quick Actions panel on Overview:

- Tax summary for filing
All CA Report exports are downloadable as CSV files suitable for handing to your accountant.
Tax (GST / VAT / etc.)
This tab's label adapts to your region (e.g., "GST" for India, "VAT" for UK/EU). It shows:
- Tax Collected (output tax): from issued invoices.
- Input Tax Credit (ITC): tax paid on business expenses.
- Net Tax Payable: Tax Collected − ITC.
Filtered to the current financial year.
Tax Calendar
Displays compliance deadlines based on your region:
- GST filing dates (India)
- VAT return dates (UK/EU)
- Quarterly tax dates (USA)
- Annual return reminders
Deadlines within 5 days appear as alert banners at the top of the Reports page.
Financial Year Settings
SparkyMinis supports different Financial Year conventions:
| Region | Financial Year |
|---|---|
| India | April 1 → March 31 |
| USA / EU (Calendar Year) | January 1 → December 31 |
| Australia | July 1 → June 30 |
| UK | April 6 → April 5 |
Configure your country and currency in Settings > Preferences. Reports automatically use the correct FY boundary for Year-to-Date (YTD) calculations.
Year-to-Date (YTD) Calculations
The YTD stats at the top of the Reports page show:
- Revenue earned since the start of your financial year.
- Expenses logged since the start of your financial year.
- Projected annual totals (based on current run rate).
- "Vs Last Year" comparison (percentage change).
Tax Calendar
The Tax Calendar panel shows upcoming compliance deadlines based on your region:
- GST return filing dates (India)
- VAT return dates (UK/EU)
- Quarterly estimated tax dates (USA)
- Annual return reminders
Deadlines appear on your Dashboard as reminder cards as they approach.
Exporting Reports
- On the Reports page, click the relevant quick action button (Download P&L, View Cash Flow, or Generate CA Package).
- A CSV file is downloaded to your computer immediately.
- CA Package exports include multiple files: P&L, Expense Ledger, and Invoice Register.
For printing, use your browser's print function on any tab — the page renders in a clean, print-optimised layout.
All printed reports include:
- Your business name and address (from Settings > Preferences > Business Profile).
- The reporting period.
- A clear breakdown of figures.
- Currency notation throughout.
Tips for Accurate Reports
- Always mark invoices as Paid when money is received. Unpaid invoices are "outstanding" and not counted as income.
- Log expenses promptly — especially at month-end — to get an accurate picture.
- Set your Tax ID and Business Address in Settings so it appears on printed reports.
- Use the Project link on expenses to see project-level profitability alongside overall reports.
